The draw for this season’s FA Cup third round was made on Monday, with Newcastle United joining the rest of the Premier League and Championship coming in entering the competition at this stage for the 2020/21 season.
The Magpies have been handed a tricky tie away against holders and 14-time record winners Arsenal. That suggests Newcastle have a tough task on their hands to try and force their way through to the next round and emulate the success they have had so far in this season’s Carabao Cup.
Newcastle have won the competition on six occasions, but their last success in the FA Cup came back in the 1954/55 season. Indeed, the Magpies have not even made it into the last four of the competition since 2005, while they last reached the final in the 1998/99 campaign, losing to eventual treble winners Manchester United.
