Newcastle fans react as Aston Villa game postponed

A number of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to the news the club that the Magpies’ meeting with Aston Villa on Friday has been postponed.

Steve Bruce’s sides preparations ahead of their trip to the Midlands had been thrown into chaos in the last few days. Reports have emerged that up to five of their players have tested positive for Covid, which led to the club’s training ground being closed, preventing them from training ahead of the fixture, per BBC.

The Magpies had managed to secure a much-needed 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in their last Premier League outing to relieve the pressure that had built up following back-to-back defeats. However, the prospects of Newcastle continuing their momentum from their late show at Selhurst Park have been impacted by the pandemic emerging within their squad.

It has been reported that the Magpies had asked the Premier League to postpone their trip to Villa Park amid their current situation, and the club have since confirmed that their game against Dean Smith’s side has now been postponed, with a new date and time set to be confirmed in due course. That comes after the news that several of their players and staff members are self-isolating.

Newcastle fans react to update on Villa clash

Many Newcastle fans were quick to suggest that it is a sensible decision by the Premier League to postpone the game, with player safety and welfare of both clubs needing to be the immediate priority.
