Newcastle fans fume over decision to turn down trialist Cedwyn Scott
A number of Newcastle United supporters have bemoaned the Magpies’ decision not to offer a one-year deal to Cedwyn Scott following a trial period with the club.
The young forward had been taken on trial by Newcastle after impressing the Magpies’ scouting team after scoring an impressive tally of 14 goals in just four matches for Hebburn Town. It is believed that the 21-year-old had made a good impression during his time working with the club’s youth setup on trial over the last few weeks.
Scott had featured for the Magpies’ under-23s, starting in three of their recent matches and being involved in a dramatic encounter against Leeds United which saw them come back from 3-0 down to earn a 4-3 win against the Yorkshire club. The 21-year-old would have hoped those performances would have been enough to earn him a professional deal.
However, the Magpies have since informed him that, due to him turning 22 in the next few weeks, they felt that his development wouldn’t come quickly enough to be considered in the first team in the near future, per Chronicle Live. That means Scott will be hoping to now find a professional deal elsewhere now over the next few weeks and months.
Newcastle fans rage over club’s rejection of Cedwyn Scott
Many Newcastle fans were left baffled after the Magpies decided to offer him a trial only to decide his age deterred them from offering him a potential professional contract. One fan pointed out the recent offering of a deal to Florent Indalecio, a close friend of Allan Saint-Maximin, as a reason why this decision is so harsh on Scott.
What an absolute waste of time that trial was then, you can’t tell me they didn’t know his age when they offered him it. Bunch of absolute clowns who run our football club like https://t.co/pT8xPvWjLp

Mark is this a joke? I don't understand it at all – if they take a striker who scores 14 goals in 4 games then turn around and say him being 22 is against him then what was even the point in giving him a trial?

You’re not mates with any of the senior players so we can’t hand you a 1 year contract?
