Newcastle fans debate whether Magpies should offer Dwight Gayle a new deal
A number of Newcastle United supporters have been debating whether the Magpies should offer a new contract to Dwight Gayle after it emerged that he could be the recipient of one.
Gayle has been sidelined for the first few months of the season after picking up a knee injury which ruled him out for around four months, per Sky Sports. Bruce confirmed before the international break that the 30-year-old could potentially be ready to return to action for Newcastle in the next few weeks ahead of the festive fixture list.
The forward sees his current £40,000-a-week contract expire at the end of the season, but it had been reported that the Magpies are considering offering him an extension to avoid losing him in the January transfer window, per Football Insider. It has now emerged that the 30-year-old is one of a number of players who could be offered a new contract by the club, per Chronicle Live.
Newcastle have been struggling for goals in the final third this term. When Callum Wilson’s six goals are discounted, Joelinton and Jacob Murphy are their joint-top scorers so far with just two goals each (Transfermarkt). That would suggest Gayle’s return is needed, and Bruce has described him as ‘invaluable’ in the past.
Newcastle fans debate potential new deal for Gayle
Some Newcastle fans were urging the Magpies to offer him a two-year extension to his contract, believing that his scoring instincts are needed for the rest of the campaign. Others believe that the forward’s injury issues over the last few months should preclude him from being given a new deal.
Will be good to see him fit and play along side Wilson . Might actually work

Goal scorers score goals 🤷🏼♂️ if he was getting service regularly he’d score every week

Give him a new deal all day. I bet £100 he scores more this season than Joelinton + Carroll combined

If it's lose him for free or give him a 2 year contract. I'd give him a contract. Apart from Wilson he's thr only one in the squad who can score.
