Newcastle fans urge Magpies to consider re-signing Salomon Rondon

A number of Newcastle United fans have urged the Magpies to consider making a move to re-sign former loanee Salomon Rondon, who recently stated that he would like a St James’ Park return.

Rondon spent the 2018/19 season on loan at the club from West Brom and he was an impressive performer for Rafa Benitez in what turned out to be the Spaniard’s final campaign in charge of the Magpies. The 31-year-old striker registered an impressive tally of 11 goals and seven assists in 32 Premier League appearances that term (Sofascore).

Both he and Benitez wanted a permanent deal done in the summer of 2019, but eventually the Spanish manager made the decision to leave St James’ Park. The Magpies then opted against turning Rondon’s loan from West Brom into a permanent move, per The Sun, but the 31-year-old has recently stated he would return to the club if they made him an offer, per Chronicle Live.

Newcastle instead opted to bring in Joelinton in a club-record £40m move from Hoffenheim, while Steve Bruce has also managed to sign Callum Wilson from Bournemouth in the summer. However, a hamstring injury to the England striker has highlighted the lack of quality attacking depth in the Magpies’ squad, with a real concern over a lack of goals from elsewhere were they to lose the 28-year-old for a long period.

Newcastle fans urge Magpies to move for Rondon

Many Newcastle supporters believe that re-signing Rondon, who is now back with Benitez at Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional, would be a smart move for the Magpies considering the lack of depth that they have in the attacking third in light of Wilson’s recent injury scare.
