A number of Newcastle United supporters have been urging the Magpies to consider trying to get Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as a potential alternative to Steve Bruce.
Newcastle have got off to a reasonably good start in the Premier League, having collected 11 points from their opening eight matches. However, the pressure has been mounting on Bruce over the last few weeks, with frustrations growing over the lack of attacking intent on display from his side.
So far this season, Newcastle have recorded the fewest attempts on goal in the top flight, while they have also completed more passes than just four other sides in the Premier League (premierleague.com). That pragmatic style has allowed them to pick up points but has also seen Bruce’s approach labelled as ‘anti-football’.
In contrast, Rangers have got off to a flying start to the season under Gerrard, who has instilled an attacking philosophy in his side, who sit atop both the Scottish Premier League and their Europa League group, having scored an impressive tally of 54 goals already this campaign. They have also kept teams out at the other end with regularity, recording 16 clean sheets.
Newcastle fans impressed with Gerrard
Many Newcastle fans were keen to point out that the “hungry” Gerrard could well be the right choice to succeed Bruce in the event of the Magpies being successfully taken over by new owners, while others are just hoping that anyone who would play a more attractive style could take the reins from the former Aston Villa manager:
Would take him with a takeover, the pulling power, plays attacking football and young and hungry to succeed. Downside is experience in difficult times, but any be blamed for that and also if Liverpool came calling, he would be off

Definitely. Young, hungry and with the times. Likes to attack and has good connections in the games to get decent youngsters in

I would happily take him in a takeover or non-takeover world. He’s doing wonders ??

In a heartbeat. But no way he would come and work for Ashley.
