A number of Newcastle United fans have been venting their frustrations over the Magpies’ decision to allow both Adam Armstrong and Ivan Toney to leave the club a few years ago after the pair’s excellent starts to the season.
The former Newcastle academy prospects have enjoyed brilliant starts to their respective seasons in the Championship, with Armstrong producing a string of outstanding displays for Blackburn Rovers and topping the league’s scoring charts with 11 goals in his opening ten matches (Sofascore).
Meanwhile, Toney is also excelling in his first season back in the Championship after making what could rise to a £10m move from Peterborough United to Brentford. The 24-year-old has managed to register ten goals in his opening 11 league matches to sit second in the scoring charts behind Armstrong (Sofascore).
Newcastle have endured issues trying to find a reliable scorer for several years, but the arrival of Callum Wilson from Bournemouth in the summer has changed that as the 28-year-old has registered six goals in his opening eight Premier League matches (Sofascore). However, he is now facing a potentially prolonged period out of action with a hamstring injury.
The Magpies do not have anyone else available who can be deemed a natural scorer and, having recorded the fewest attempts on goal of any team in this season’s Premier League, they may well regret not keeping hold of the in-form Championship duo.
Newcastle fans react to Armstrong’s and Toney’s form
Many Newcastle fans have been suggesting that the Magpies made a “terrible” mistake in allowing the pair to leave the club, while one fan pointed out the lack of youth products being brought through over the last decade since Andy Carroll burst onto the scene.
Glad they got out before it was too late. https://t.co/mXZvQDtUeV

Why did we let them go https://t.co/QBOGUUjgN2

Hard to believe we let both of these go, I honestly think at least one of these players will make it in the Premier League. Our academy and coaching staff haven’t brought anyone through of real quality since Andy Carroll in 2008/09. 11 years! #NUFC https://t.co/6iinm8duly
