A number of Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the latest update suggesting that the Magpies could be set to lose striker Callum Wilson for a prolonged period after the international break.
Wilson suffered a hamstring injury during the second half of the Magpies’ defeat at Southampton on Friday night, with Steve Bruce confirming after the match that the 28-year-old would be sent for a scan during the week to assess the full extent to the injury which forced him off the field at St Mary’s.
The striker would have been hoping to continue his strong start to the campaign over the next few months after scoring six goals in eight league matches, having missed out on the latest England squad.
However, it has now emerged there are fears that Wilson’s injury could see him ruled out for most of the rest of the year, per Shields Gazette. That would be a real concern for Steve Bruce’s side, who have recorded the fewest shots per game in the Premier League and have scored just four goals aside from the 28-year-old’s tally of six.
Newcastle fans react to update on Wilson injury
Many Newcastle fans have been pointing out how big of a blow it would be for the Magpies to lose Wilson for a prolonged period, with one fan even suggesting the injury reflects the poor management of players in training. Others bemoaned the lack of genuine goalscoring replacements they have in the form of Joelinton and Andy Carroll.
all of these soft tissue injuries scream poor training and conditioning – clearly no preventative programs… look no further than poor player/team management.

Need to go out to free transfer market then. None of our current strikers good enough to score goals in his absence. Sturridge best choice for me #nufc

That’s what happens when you gamble with only having one striker in your squad who can score goals

In all seriousness, Wilson being out for a number of weeks would be a huge blow. Hopefully Gayle is back soon, as he is the only one who can come close to replacing him. Hopefully injury isn't as bad as reports suggest. #nufc

No problem, we have goal machines in Carroll and Joelinton.
