A number of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to the latest comments made by Ryan Fraser outlining his ambition to ‘make history’ with the Magpies after his summer move from Bournemouth.
Fraser arrived at St James’ Park on a free transfer having run down his contract at Bournemouth and not played on for the Cherries last season after the Premier League restart. That decision had received some criticism but he has since outlined that he did it to help avoid injury and make sure he could make an impact for the Magpies over the next few years, per Chronicle Live.
The 14-cap Scotland international had got off to a slow start to his time at St James’ Park, with Steve Bruce introducing him from the bench in the Premier League in the opening few matches. However, he came off the bench against Everton last time out and played an important role in the Magpies’ victory after starting for the first time in their previous match away at Wolves. Speaking to Chronicle Live, Fraser outlined his ambitions to make history for the Magpies and help to produce plenty of quality moments for Newcastle which will help to make his number 21 shirt become iconic around St James’ Park, saying:
“I want those who come in after me to say: ‘Ryan Fraser wore 21, now I want it’. I want that history and want to make it myself.
“As a team we want to be looking back and saying: ‘Remember the seasons where we got the club back to where they want to be’.
“That’s what I want, no offence looking back on history, that’s nice, but I want to make my own with this team.”
Newcastle fans react to Fraser’s comments over future ambitions
Many Newcastle fans were keen to point out that this is the sort of “passion and ambition” they want to see from the Magpies to help take them towards the next level, while one supporter even jokingly pointed out the lack of competition he has in terms of making the number 21 shirt ‘his own’.
That's the type of player we want, someone wanting to make history at the club (for the right reasons) hope he manages to succeed
