Plenty of Newcastle fans have been reacting to the latest update around Southampton striker Danny Ings, who is set to miss out on the Saints’ meeting with the Magpies on Friday night.
Ings has been among the most in-form players in the Premier League over the course of last season and the start of the current campaign. The England international managed to register an impressive tally of 22 league goals last term for the Saints and he had scored five goals in their opening seven matches this season (Sofascore).
The 28-year-old was once again on target for Southampton last time out in their 4-3 win at Aston Villa, registering with a typically well-taken strike. However, Ings was forced off the pitch late on in the game, having suffered a nasty-looking knee injury. It has now emerged that he is set to be out for the next six to eight weeks meaning he will sit out the game against Newcastle.
Newcastle benefitted from similar luck against Everton last time out, with James Rodriguez missing out and the Toffees also without the influential Richarlison through suspension. That helped Steve Bruce’s side pick up a 2-1 win to continue their solid start to the campaign.
Newcastle fans react to Ings missing out on Southampton clash
Many Newcastle fans were keen to point out how much fortune the Magpies are having of late, and suggested that Ings’ loss for Southampton could be a huge factor in helping Bruce’s side potentially pick up another positive result on their travels at St Mary’s on Friday night.
Shame for him but excellent news for nufc in the form he's been https://t.co/zvagXyvOJx

Feel sorry for Ings, hopefully he comes back in the same form, gives us far more of a chance though https://t.co/dG9IyN7mcl

Huge loss for Southampton – hopefully we can capitalise. But knowing us…we won’t 🙃

Huge for us with the amount of chances we gift other teams.

This is great if teams could keep getting their best players injured/suspended before they play us that'd be great
