A number of Newcastle United supporters have been suggesting that Callum Wilson is likely to struggle to make it into England’s forthcoming squad for Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Iceland.
Wilson has been in fine form so far this campaign, having decided to make the £20m move from Bournemouth to Newcastle ahead of a potential move to Aston Villa, per Express and Star. The forward made that decision to boost his chances of regaining a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020 next summer, per Chronicle Live.
The 28-year-old has managed to register an impressive tally of six goals in his first seven Premier League matches for the Magpies, an average of 0.9 goals per game (Sofascore), with only Les Ferdinand having reached that total in fewer games for Newcastle.
Wilson grabbed a brace for the Magpies in their win against Everton on Sunday, and after the game, he suggested that his phone was on and awaiting a call from Southgate, per Chronicle Live. However, that call might not come due to England having so many forwards in equally scintillating form.
Newcastle fans debate chances of potential Wilson call up
Most Newcastle fans were keen to point out that Wilson would be thoroughly deserving of a callup to the England squad, but others suggested that Southgate is unlikely to select the striker based on the current options available to him.

Yes. But he won’t. I’m convinced Southgate has a grudge against us owing to his Boro days

If Southgate is true to form in terms of #nufc players he'll call up a Spurs reserve before picking anyone from here!

Yes and Darlow…..but they won’t be.
But that’s fine by me….more rest and no chance of an international injury.

Hope not. Let him have a week off and get some rest. He won’t be starting in important matches for England. I’d rather he wasn’t wasting his time going travelling with them.

I don't think so. Not yet anyway. Kane, DCL, Rashford and Ings are ahead of him imo. I. Suppose it depends on how many strikers are picked. Abraham probably shouldn't be picked, but I don't think it's picked on form

He’s on fire but because he plays for us he won’t get picked
