Newcastle United youngster Jack Young has joined Tranmere Rovers on a season-long loan as confirmed on the club’s official website.
The 19-year-old who has mainly been used as a defensive midfielder for Neil Redfearn’s Magpie’s Under 23 side, heads to Prenton Park for some valuable senior experience in League Two following the Wirral side’s points per game based relegation last season.
The teenager described as a ”clever little player, and a bright footballer.” by Redfearn last year, joined the setup at St James’ Park aged just seven and will be hopeful of following in the footsteps of siblings Matty and Sean Longstaff as local lads who have broken into the first-team.
Tranmere Rovers manager Michael Jackson has set about bolstering his squad as he attempts to guide the club back to League One at the first time of asking. Young joins with the club currently sat in 14th position, three points off the playoffs.

With Steve Bruce having a plethora of options in the centre of midfield, including the aforementioned Longstaff brothers, it was unlikely Young would see any first-team action this season and a loan move was always likely to be a viable option.
Senior football and a level such as League Two will provide a learning curve for Young who until now has taken every step in his stride including making his Under 23s debut aged just 17.
Young has experienced playing against senior sides with his EFL Trophy outings for the young Magpies, including two matches this season against Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra respectively.
