Leeds show interest in Newcastle’s Matty Longstaff

Leeds United are showing an interest in signing Matty Longstaff, according to a report from Mike McGrath of The Telegraph.

Longstaff is officially a free agent as things stand after he failed to agree a contract extension at St James’ Park and as such, he is free to join Leeds or any other club with Newcastle just receiving a small compensatory fee.

Udinese recently offered the 20-year-old a contract but he’s not accepted that at this point, meaning Leeds could still complete a deal for the midfielder.

The way things have been handled regarding Longstaff’s future have not been great from Newcastle’s point of view and as such, they find themselves in a position where they could lose the player for just a minimal fee.

Seeing a boyhood Newcastle United supporter playing elsewhere due to mismanagement of his contract could well be yet another blow for Magpies fans who’ve had plenty to complain about in terms of boardroom decisions in recent years.
