Spanish football writer and pundit Guillem Balague believes that Newcastle United are the current favourites to sign Philippe Coutinho, according to a video podcast he did with Spanish publication ‘Sport’.
The biggest effort Coutinho’s representatives are doing is towards the Premier League and the idea is for him to go to the Premier League. The favourites, if you have to choose from the Premier League, are Newcastle if the (takeover) bid comes in and if they make an offer for him of some kind that Barcelona is happy with.
Following Coutinho’s lucrative move from Liverpool to Barcelona in 2018, the Brazilian playmaker hasn’t managed to nail down a first-team spot at the Catalan giants.
He has spent the last season on loan at Bayern Munich, but it seems that Coutinho’s future is neither at Barcelona nor Bayern and that he is keen for a Premier League return.
The likelihood of the transfer is subject to Newcastle’s takeover being completed but there is an added dimension to that story too, with another bid being placed this morning from US TV company chief Henry Mauriss, according to Sky Sports.

It seems increasingly likely that Newcastle’s takeover will happen, regardless of whether it’s to the Saudis or to the Americans and this could open the opportunity for the Magpies to bring in some marquee signings.
We all remember Coutinho’s time at Liverpool and he was unquestionably one of the league’s top players.
Although he hasn’t had the most successful time abroad, his talent is still there and if Newcastle were able to secure his services, it would be a huge statement from the club.
