Newcastle United fans identify former striker as favourite
Newcastle United fans have chosen Papiss Cisse over three more former players in a social media vote.
The 2019/2020 season has so far been a largely inconsistent campaign for Newcastle fans to watch, with Steve Bruce’s side sitting just below mid-table in the Premier League standings.
Magpies fans have seen their side score just 25 goals in the league so far, the same amount as bottom placed Norwich City, making them joint-lowest scorers in England’s top flight.
23-year-old Joelinton arrived at St. James’ Park last summer for a club record transfer fee of £40m, but the striker has struggled to live up to expectations, netting just three goals in 29 appearances.
With the season at a standstill at present, Newcastle fans have been debating who they would love to have in the squad when football returns, and the majority of them chose Cisse.
The Senegalese striker is currently available on a free transfer and scored an impressive 44 goals during his five-year spell with the club.
Reacting to the vote via social media account @fun88eng, Newcastle fans discussed all four former strikers.
