Newcastle United fans debate Almiron’s impact after £21m move

Newcastle United fans have debated the impact of Miguel Almiron during his first season at the club after joining from Major League Soccer side Atlanta United.

The Paraguayan attacking midfielder moved to Newcastle in the 2019 January transfer window for a reported fee of £21m, but he’s struggled to make a significant impact on the pitch during his full debut campaign.

10 games for Newcastle in the back end of last season saw Almiron fail to score, although the 26-year-old has vastly improved his statistics this term.

Two goals in the Premier League and four in cup competitions has seen Almiron become a key component of Steve Bruce’s starting eleven.

With football currently at a standstill, Almiron remains the leading scorer for the club and Bruce will be hoping his form can continue when the season resumes.

Engaging with fans via the club’s official Twitter account, Almiron and teammate Fernando Fernandez discussed the team’s spirit off the football field, and that prompted a debate on the former’s impact at St. James’ Park.
