# Newcastle United fans share opinion on potential new owners

Many Newcastle United fans have reacted to latest news involving a [potential takeover of the club.](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/03/29/newcastle-uniteds-340m-takeover-saudi-arabias-sovereign-wealth/)

[The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8176561/Sports-Direct-tycoon-Mike-Ashley-ready-sell-Newcastle.html) claimed that current owner Mike Ashley was keen to sell the club if a consortium led by Amanda Staveley submitted the right bid.

[Ashley took over Newcastle in 2007](https://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=432896&cc=5901), and the much criticised owner is now reportedly happy to look at offers for the club.

Whilst the [report](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8176561/Sports-Direct-tycoon-Mike-Ashley-ready-sell-Newcastle.html) reiterates those claims, it is confirmed that no official bid has been received by Sports Direct owner Ashley, [despite claims that Staveley’s consortium which is a Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIP)](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/03/29/newcastle-uniteds-340m-takeover-saudi-arabias-sovereign-wealth/), have submitted paperwork to the Premier League.

With the current standstill in football, it remains to be seen if a deal could go through at the present time, and [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8176561/Sports-Direct-tycoon-Mike-Ashley-ready-sell-Newcastle.html) claim that the Premier League are not interested in paperwork until a deal is agreed by all parties.

Calls for Ashley to sell Newcastle have been frequently heard from fans of the club over recent years, but the 55-year-old businessman has been determined to find success with the club, [claiming he would not sell until he had won a trophy, back in 2015.](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/9863241/mike-ashley-says-he-will-not-sell-newcastle-united-until-he-has-won-trophy)
