Newcastle are interested in signing Brentford forward Said Benrahma, having had a representative run the rule over the 24-year old at Griffin Park on Saturday, according to the Northern Echo.
Part of the Bees’ attacking front three that also consists of Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbuemo, Benrahma has helped fire Brentford into the Championship play-off places this season, scoring eight and assisting seven goals in 27 league games.
The Northern Echo claim that Newcastle were aware of the Algerian forward before he made his move to Brentford from Nice in 2018, having kept a keen on eye on Ligue 1 football in recent years.
With the Magpies keen on bolstering their forward line in the summer, Benrahma has emerged as an option for Steve Bruce’s side, who have largely struggled for consistency up top this season.

WhoScored name a laundry list of strengths for Benrahma, claiming that the Algerian international is a ‘very strong’ dribbler, while his other strengths include: crossing, shooting from distance, passing, finishing and taking set pieces.
With the website describing his only weakness as a lack of defensive contribution, WhoScored’s assessment would suggest that the 24-year old has quality that could improve Newcastle’s largely blunted attacking unit.
With Yoshinori Muto and Dwight Gayle both likely to leave in the near future, and with Joelinton having struggled to impress this season, Benrahma could be someone who could add energy enthusiasm, and goalscoring instinct to Steve Bruce’s side.
