Atlanta United president Darren Eales has hinted that his club could do more business with Newcastle in the future, as reported by Chronicle Live.
The Magpies bought Miguel Almiron from the Five Stripes in January 2019 for £21million, with the Paraguay international having impressed in the MLS.
Talking to Chronicle Live, Eales revealed that he had done business with Newcastle prior to the Almiron deal, having previously worked for Spurs.
The Atlanta president then claimed that doing business with a club only increases your chances of doing more with them in the future, before further indicating that another deal could be on the horizon.
As reported by Chronicle Live, Eales said:
It’s like anything in football. I knew the guys at Newcastle from my time at Spurs and what happens in football is once you have done a deal, you get to know the club, you get to know the people and that always makes it easier when the next deal comes along because you’ve got those contacts,
Newcastle is a fantastic club with a great history. They play in stripes as well. I think we will always have that affinity because of the deal we did and who knows down that line what may happen?
Chronicle Live reported in January that Newcastle’s transfer chief Steve Nickson had “definitely” scouted Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez, while the club continue to monitor his progress.
Following Eales’ comments, could Newcastle make a move for the Venezuelan striker?

Martinez has caught the eye of many through his performances for Atlanta in the MLS, and it is clear to see why. The 26-year-old boasts an incredible goalscoring record, having scored 77 goals in 83 league games during his time in the United States (SoccerBase).
Martinez has been credited by WhoScored as a ‘very strong’ finisher, while his other strengths include his distribution, his hold up play and his aerial presence, all of which would make him the ideal candidate for a club void of genuine quality up front.
Yoshinori Muto faces an uncertain future at St James’ Park, while Dwight Gayle is very much in the same camp, and with Joelinton having only managed one Premier League goal in 25 appearances this season, the Magpies could do with an influx of attacking talent to bolster their options.
Should Newcastle’s relationship with Atlanta help them edge out competition for the Venezuela international, I think that Steve Bruce’s side could greatly benefit from pursuing Martinez.
