As reported by Sky Sports News, former Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb is closing in on a loan move to Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old played in 66 games for Spurs between 2013 and 2016 before leaving to join Schalke, firstly on loan before completing a permanent switch to the German side.

Ahead of the news that he’s set for a return to the Premier League, some Tottenham fans took to social media to give their thoughts about his potential temporary switch to Newcastle.

These Spurs supporters seem happy to see their former star coming back to England and think he’ll do well for the Magpies.

Whilst Twitter isn’t exactly the place to go for a consensus opinion, the fact that Bentaleb’s name was trending on the social media site, with plenty of Spurs fans like those above, taking the time to compliment him, shows that he certainly made an impression at White Hart Lane.

However, Bentaleb hasn’t played for Schalke this season after he injured his knee, so it remains to be seen how quickly he can get up to speed at St James’ Park.

If he’s fully fit and firing, he’ll have the chance to impress the Newcastle fans like he seemingly did the Spurs supporters, but we do worry that his prolonged absence from the Schalke side will mean he needs some time to get used to playing first-team football again

With only 15 league games left, we hope the Algerian can get himself up to speed quickly as Newcastle look to stay clear of the relegation zone.
