Newcastle United are interested in Everton duo Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson, according to a report on the Northern Echo.
The Magpies are looking to strengthen their defensive unit in the January transfer window and Holgate is understood to be their number one target.
The youngster has been performing well for the Toffees, producing a standout display in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
On the other hand, Gibson left Newcastle for Everton in 2017 and Steve Bruce is keen to bring him back to St James’ Park.

Gibson has failed to break into the first-team at the Merseyside club and is still close friends with Sean and Matty Longstaff, who could help lure him back.

Holgate is valued at around £14 by Everton and for a player of his quality and age, that seems like a bargain price.
He’s looked a totally different player under the management of Duncan Ferguson in the last two matches and Everton are likely to do everything possible to keep hold of him.
The Magpies are likely to have more luck with Gibson though. He’s been a regular for Everton’s Under-23s but he’ll be looking for more senior action, which he could find under Bruce. Signing them both would be excellent business from Newcastle.
