Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff won the BBC Match of the Day’s October Goal of the Month award.
Longstaff’s winning strike on his debut against Manchester United at St James’ Park got the most votes ahead of the likes of Burnley’s Jay Rodriguez and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.
However, most fans were not pleased to see it win the award, with many feeling that other goals on the shortlist were more worthy.

When compared to Rodriguez’s strike, Longstaff’s isn’t as much of a worldie, but in terms of significance, this goal is right up there.
A local lad scoring against one of the world’s biggest clubs on his debut to help his struggling side to three Premier League points – it’s the stuff of dreams.
The build-up to the goal was also really good to watch, with a neat finish to match. When all things are taken into account, Longstaff winning the award doesn’t seem like a bad decision.
