Although there is no denying that Schar is a key player for Newcastle, they did defend well without him against Wolves last weekend. Whilst Wolves were not at their best, Newcastle did well to stifle the threat they did pose, earning a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park.
Federico Fernandez produced a solid display at the back in place of Schar and looks set to start again at West Ham with the Swiss international out again. Fernandez is out of contract at the end of the season and could be playing for his future, as he looks to convince Steve Bruce that he deserves an extended deal at the club.
