Newcastle forward Dwight Gayle turned down a loan move back to Championship side West Brom in the summer.
According to The Athletic journalist Chris Waugh, West Brom and Newcastle agreed a deal to send Gayle back to The Hawthorns, but he opted against the switch.
The report claims that Gayle was only interested in a deal to join West Brom permanently, rather than another loan.

Should Newcastle have sold Gayle in the summer?
No. They were right to keep hold of him, albeit after trying to send him out on loan. Newcastle are struggling for goals in the Premier League this season, with just six goals in 10 games and could be in need of his presence up front.
The centre-forward is a prolific scorer at Championship level and there is no doubting his ability to finish in front of goal. If Newcastle can create the chances for him, Gayle could be the man to fire them up the table and away from danger. However, Steve Bruce needs to have some faith in him first and afford him the opportunity to come in and stake a claim for his place in the team over record signing Joelinton.
