Whilst some fans there seem to be concerned about bringing another right-back in, you have to consider that he played – very well – in central midfield for Wigan in the second half of last season. He excelled in a defensive midfield position, which could be where Newcastle want him to play.
The England under-21 international’s versatility in that he is able to play at right-back or holding midfield is a useful quality which could come in handy for Steve Bruce in the second half of the campaign. Newcastle have also struggled to nail down a regular at right-back, so he could solve that issue by coming in and becoming a starter at the back.
