Newcastle open talks over deal for Thomson

Newcastle are poised to beat Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers to the signing of Queen’s Park midfielder Reagan Thomson.

According to The Daily Record, via The Evening Times, Newcastle have opened talks over a deal for Thomson and are hopeful of bringing him to England in the January transfer window.

The Scotland under-17 international has been a regular for Queen’s Park in League Two, making eight appearances so far this season – despite being just 16.

The best way to bring more players through the academy system and into the first-team is to improve your academy side. It is great to see that Newcastle are looking to add to their youth squad and think about the future of the club, rather than just relying on first-team signings.

You only have to look at the Longstaff brothers to see the kind of impact youth players can have on the first-team. The club need to be proactive and look to bring in the most talented young players to bolster their youth set-up with the hope of them progressing into the first-team later in their career.

Thomson is clearly impressing for Queen’s Park, to be playing regularly at 16, and is a youth international for Scotland, which suggests that he has a bright future ahead of him.
