Schar ruled out of Wolves clash – who should replace him?

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that defender Fabian Schar will miss the clash with Wolves at St. James’ Park on Sunday.

Schar is set to miss the match with a knee injury, although Bruce has revealed that it is only a minor knock.

The Swiss centre-back has started every single league game this season, scoring once from the back.

Who should replace Schar in the team?

Paul Dummett. The Welshman has dropped out of the team in recent weeks for Ciaran Clark, but appears to be the natural replacement for Schar in the side. It would allow Clark to take up Schar’s place in the back three and mean that Dummett can play on the left side – where he excelled at the start of the season.

It is the perfect opportunity for Dummett to prove that he is good enough to be a regular starter at the back under Steve Bruce this season. He made some costly errors leading to being dropped from the side, so he will surely be desperate to make a good impression.

Schar has been a key player for Newcastle this season, with his interceptions and tackles, and will be a huge loss this weekend. Dummett will need to step up and produce a quality performance in order for Newcastle to come away with something from the match.

matchday.
