There is no doubting that Gayle excels at Championship level, scoring over 40 goals combined in his last two seasons in the division – with Newcastle and West Brom.
He has, however, struggled in the Premier League. He has never managed double figures in a top-flight season and is currently struggling to get in the Newcastle team ahead of the likes of Joelinton and Andy Carroll.
A loan move to Forest could be the best move for Gayle in order to get him regular game time in the second half of the season. It could also lead to a permanent move, which would give Newcastle more money to spend on new signings in the future.
