Newcastle eyeing Osimhen swoop – should they sign him in January?

Newcastle are reportedly eyeing up a potential swoop for Lille striker Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are keeping tabs on Osimhen as they weigh up a bid for the forward.

Osimhen has scored seven goals in Ligue 1 so far this season, along with one goal in two games in the Champions League. He was also named Ligue 1 Player of the Month for September.

Should Newcastle sign him in January?

Yes. His performances this season have been superb, scoring seven and assisting two in just nine Ligue 1 starts for Lille. He has been the WhoScored Man of the Match in four of those matches, proving how effective he has been.

He has also won an impressive 4.7 aerial duels per-game, as per WhoScored, which indicates that he would suit Newcastle’s style of play. Newcastle play with a target man striker, which means that they need someone who is capable of winning headers and holding the ball up whilst also being able to find the back of the net. These statistics all prove that he is capable of this, although unproven at Premier League level.

The report does not mention a possible price for Osimhen, though, which could be a huge factor in whether or not Newcastle are able to get a deal over the line for the Nigerian international.

matchday.
