Lazaar wants Italy stay – should Newcastle let him go?

Newcastle fullback Achraf Lazaar has claimed that he wants to stay in Italy and not return to England.

Lazaar is currently on loan to Cosenza in Serie B and has said that he has nothing to prove in England. The defender wants to remain in Italy after the end of his loan spell.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, via Sport Witness, Lazaar said this:

I don’t have to prove anything to anyone in England. I want to be the best for myself. I want to stay in Italy. Italy raised me, made me feel important. The English experience made me become a man.

Should Newcastle allow him to leave?

Yes. He has played just 10 games for the club since signing in 2016, which suggests that Rafa Benitez did not rate him very highly. This means that he may not be good enough to play at Premier League level for Newcastle.

Also, Jetro Willems and Matt Ritchie are Newcastle’s current options at left-back and have both impressed this season. Willems is the first-choice at present, with Ritchie injured, and has caught the eye with his attacking prowess from wing-back – picking up one goal and one assist in the Premier League.

Lazaar clearly does not want to stay at Newcastle, so why should they keep him?

matchday.
