Gibson “very keen” on Newcastle move – should the club sign him?

Everton defender Lewis Gibson is reportedly “very keen” on a move back to Newcastle next summer.

According to Football Insider, Gibson is interested in signing for Newcastle again, after leaving the club to join Everton in 2017.

The report claims that Gibson is desperate for first-team football and has been inspired by the progression of Matty and Sean Longstaff at St. James’ Park.

Gibson’s contract expires at the end of the season, which means he would be able to leave Everton for a compensation fee. There is no way of knowing how much that fee would be, but it does mean that Newcastle would be able to bring him in with little fuss.

If he is keen on joining Newcastle, it also suggests that he has the hunger and drive to make it at the top level, which can only be seen as a positive. Given his determination, history with the club and potential price, it looks as though it is a risk worthy of taking for Newcastle.

Even if he is unable to break into the first-team, Newcastle could even look to sell him on in the future for a potential profit. The report, however, does not indicate how interested Newcastle are in a deal, so we will have to wait and see how this one develops.
