Newcastle beat Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park just before the international break to give the supporters some hope heading into the rest of the campaign.
After the win, reports claimed that Mike Ashley spoke with United chief Ed Woodward and dubbed himself “the most unpopular man in football”. However, the club have now released a statement refuting these claims.

It is no surprise to see the club refute the claims, as it is far from a good look to have your owner saying something like that. There is, however, no way of truly knowing which side is telling the truth – so it is down to who you want to believe.
The Atheltic in their report or Mike Ashley? It would be remiss to call either liars, without knowing the truth, so this one may have to go under the “unsolved” case section.
