Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has picked up an injury during international duty with Denmark, according to a report on Football London.
The centre-back was substituted late on during the 1-0 victory over Switzerland with what seems to be a groin injury.
Christensen has recently lost his place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI but is still one of the team’s senior defenders.
Newcastle travel to Stamford Bridge next weekend and will be pleased to hear that Christensen could miss out.
Does this increase Newcastle’s chances of getting a positive result in London?
Potentially. Chelsea boss Lampard might have been considering rotating his back four and bringing Christensen back into the team.
However, the Dane may now not be available at all for the clash, giving Steve Bruce’s men extra motivation to attack the Blues.
The severity of the problem is yet to be announced, but the fact he had to be withdrawn shows that it could be pretty serious.
