Gibson linked with a Magpies return – is this a good move?

In 2017, Lewis Gibson left Newcastle for Everton, but just two years on, he is being linked with a move back to the Magpies.

According to the Daily Mail, the Tyneside outfit are said to be lining up a move for their former defender, as his contract at Goodison Park expires next summer.

Gibson left Newcastle on bad terms, reportedly launching a complaint against Peter Beardsley – who is no longer at the club.

Would Gibson’s return be a good move?

This would be a good signing for Newcastle, despite the fact that Gibson has not yet played a senior game of football for the Toffees.

Gibson has made 30 appearances for Everton’s U23s since joining in 2017 and has most recently been called up for England U20 duty, which shows he’s impressing the right people.

With defensive powerhouses Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar constantly linked with moves away from St. James’ Park, Gibson would provide decent cover for now and maybe a great replacement further down the line if he lives up to his potential.

matchday.
