Newcastle lining up Worrall bid – would he be a good signing?

Newcastle are considering a January bid for Nottingham Forest star Joe Worrall to bolster their squad.

According to CHAD, Newcastle are lining up a swoop for the centre-back in the next transfer window.

Worrall has played 11 games for Nottingham Forest in the Championship this season, with his side currently sitting second in the table.

Would Worrall be a good signing for Newcastle?

Paul Harding/Getty Images Sport

Yes. The defender has been in sensational form for Forest in the Championship, averaging over five clearances per-game 1.2 interceptions per-game – as per WhoScored.

Worrall is strong in the air, winning 2.8 aerial duels per-game, and comfortable at playing the ball out from the back. These qualities would stand him in good stead heading into the Premier League, should Newcastle opt to bring him in to the club.

He is also only 22, which means that he has plenty of time to develop and progress as a footballer. This means that, if he is able to fulfill his potential, there could be profit for Newcastle in the future.

Worrall could also be seen as a long-term successor to the likes of Fabian Schar, Paul Dummett and Jamaal Lascelles, as Newcastle look to build their side around their defence.
