Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff scored the winner against Manchester United on Sunday on his Premier League debut.
The 19-year-old academy graduate, however, was meant to join a League Two club on loan in the summer. Steve Bruce ultimately decided to keep him at the club, instead of sending him out on loan, though.

Whilst there is no way of knowing if Bruce would have played Matty Longstaff if Shelvey and Hayden were available, the fact is that he did play. The youngster is now likely to be given another start after the international break, which will give him the chance to nail down a regular place in the starting XI.
He was excellent in midfield throughout the game, even if you exclude his goal. He constantly won the ball back and looked to close down Manchester United attackers at every opportunity.
