Placed 19th in the Premier League table, Newcastle United have a tough match this weekend against Leicester City. The Magpies have registered just one win in the league so far while their opponents are currently fifth in the table.
Sunday’s match is the 126th meeting between both teams. The Magpies have actually won their last two fixture against Leicester City in the latter’s backyard. However, it will be hard for Steve Bruce’s side to amass three points on Sunday. The Foxes have been in good form so far and have a fair chance of qualifying for European competition next season.
A win for the Magpies will take them to at least 13th in the League table while a defeat will keep them in 19th. Leicester will move to third place if they win.
Now, let’s take a look at our predicted XI for Newcastle as they look to get out of the bottom three…
GK- Martin Dubravka
Unsurprisingly, the Slovakian international should start between the sticks for the Magpies and he’ll hope to put in a strong performance
RB- Emil Krafth
Manquillo was good against Brighton but given the opposition, Bruce might prefer using Krafth who is currently Newcastle’s best right-back
CB- Jamaal Lascelles
The Newcastle captain will have to be in his best form is this team is to beat Leicester City.
CB- Fabian Schar
The Swiss international has so far been Newcastle’s best centre-back so far and he’ll be expected to give a tough time to the likes of Vardy and Maddison.
CB- Paul Dummett
Bruce will most likely deploy a five-man defence so Dummett should find a place in the team sheet. He has occasionally performed well and will hope to prevent the Foxes attackers from being much of a goal threat.
LB- Jetro Willems
The Dutchman should start at left-back on Sunday and will hope to help the Magpies in defence and attack
CM- Sean Longstaff
With Shelvey out injured, Sean Longstaff could replace him in the heart of the midfield. The youngster is just returning from a knock, himself.
CM- Isaac Hayden
Hayden has been one of the Magpies’ finest players this season so far and he’ll most likely start against Leicester City. He will be needed to be the dynamic figure on the pitch he usually is if Newcastle
RW- Allan Saint-Maximin
The Frenchman did well in the few minutes he got against Brighton and there’s a good chance of him starting ahead of Miguel Almiron.
LW- Christian Atsu
The Ghanian international should start against the Foxes and he will hope to create attacks while trying to find the net himself.
CF- Joelinton
The Brazilian has netted just once this season so far and will hope to add to his tally against Leicester. A lot of hopes will be pinned on Joelinton.
