Former Newcastle player Lee Clark has backed Miguel Almiron to become a success this season.
Clark says that Almiron just needs one goal to boost his confidence before he shows what he is truly capable of and has praised the midfielder’s work ethic.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Clark said this:
He’s got such a brilliant work ethic for the team, the reports you get from the training ground is that he works ever so hard on the pitch and I think everybody that is associated with the club are willing Almiron on to get this goal.
I think if he gets the first one, his confidence levels will rise and he’ll go on a bit of a run.

Does he just need one goal?

It will probably take a little bit more than that. Not only has Almiron had problems with his finishing in front of goal, but he is also not doing enough to create for his teammates.
Almiron’s decision making in the final third has been poor, which is unlikely to change just because of a confidence boost – given that it has been the case for nine months now.
He needs to improve multiple aspects of his game, although he does have to be commended for his excellent work-rate off the ball and the defensive work he does for the team. Steve Bruce now needs to help coach him into making better decisions in the final third in order to unlock his true attacking potential.
