Former Newcastle defender Mike Williamson has claimed that Paul Dummett is an unsung hero in the current squad.
Williamson says that he should be the first name on the teamsheet, due to his honesty and desire.
As quoted by TBR Football, Williamson said this:
Dummy, the style of player he is, has always been that unsung hero. I don’t think some people saw the value he brought. I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed playing with him, he knows what he’s about and he does what he’s strong at well. People like that. Whenever you need a result and characters with honesty and desire, he will be the first one on the teamsheet.

Is Dummett underrated?
It’s a hard question to ask, given that it’s very subjective and there are no ways to find out exactly where every single football fan in England rates him. However, it does seem like Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles tend to get the headlines in good performances over Dummett, despite his constant presence at the back.
Dummett is a reliable performer and consistently impresses at the back, certainly since his switch from left-back to centre-back. The Welsh international is formidable in the air and excellent at making blocks in the box to deny chances for the opposition.
