Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff is set to be fit to face Leicester in the Premier League this weekend.

Longstaff has missed the last two games with an ankle injury, with Jonjo Shelvey starting in his place.

Should Longstaff come back into the starting line-up?

Yes. Shelvey started against Liverpool and Watford and failed to make any sort of impact on either game. He struggled to impose himself on the games and failed to show that he should be ahead of Longstaff in the pecking order.

Isaac Hayden and Longstaff were beginning to form a solid partnership in midfield before the latter’s ankle injury and could pair up again against Leicester.

If he is fit to start, Steve Bruce needs to play him over Shelvey to give his side the best chance of picking up a result against an in-form Leicester side. Longstaff impressed in the opening weeks of the season and will be a valuable asset for Newcastle if he can continue his development and keep catching the eye with his performances.
