The report claims that fellow Premier League side Everton are also keen on the 19-year-old, who recently signed a new contract with the French club and is now valued at £16 million.

Is there any need for Newcastle to sign a centre-back in January?

Quite frankly, no. Steve Bruce has a plethora of options in Kamara’s position, which would make signing him an odd decision from the club. Federico Fernandez, Florian Lejeune, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and Fabian Schar have all proven themselves to be capable of performing at Premier League level.

Newcastle’s defenders have not been the issue this season, but rather the attack has been. Bruce’s side have scored just four goals in six Premier League games, which suggests that the club should be eyeing attacking reinforcements rather than targetting more centre-backs to add to the squad.
