Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has likened this weekend’s clash with Brighton to a “cup final” despite it being just the sixth match of the season.
Bruce has lost three of his first five games, although Newcastle have had to face Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool in their run.

With some fans already on Bruce’s back, it does make you wonder why he is coming out and saying things like this. Bruce will surely be aware that Newcastle fans will not be happy with him calling a game against Brighton, six games into the season, a cup final.
It makes no sense, unless Bruce is under pressure from the board to get a result – but there is no way of knowing whether or not that is the case. Newcastle are in the bottom three, although they have had a very tricky start to the campaign fixtures wise.
