Newcastle are showing an interest in a potential deal to sign Atlanta striker Josef Martinez in the January transfer window.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle and Everton are both keen on the forward and are keeping tabs on the Venezuelan international.
The report claims that Newcastle have been scouting Atlanta games in recent months and Martinez has caught the eye with his impressive performances.

Should Newcastle look to sign Martinez?

Absolutely, depending on the price of course. No fee has been mentioned for Martinez, but if they can get him within their budget then they should look to bring him to England.
Since joining Atlanta in 2017, Martinez has scored 86 goals in 95 appearances for the club. In 2019, Martinez has found the back of the net 31 times in 35 games, which is starting to attract Premier League interest.
His relationship with Miguel Almiron, who he played with at Atlanta, could also help him adjust to life at Newcastle quicker – with him already having a direct link to the club.
Newcastle have scored just four goals in their first five games of the season and a clinical striker like Martinez could help turn their fortunes around. If he can make the step up to the Premier League, he would be a sensational signing for Steve Bruce.
