An interesting question was asked to the Newcastle United fan base on Twitter, which has caused quite an uproar.

The question was:

‘If Newcastle were taken over and renamed Red Bull Newcastle, but had similar success to Leipzig/Salzburg, would you care? Would you be deeply against it?’

Like mentioned earlier, this is completely hypothetical and not based off strong rumours, but we believe this would be a terrible decision. Most would be in agreement that Newcastle are in need of new ownership, but this can happen without having to sell their naming right. Having Red Bull in their name would throw away their identity, may aswell through away their history also.

There are other ways to be successful, just look at the likes of West Ham, Leicester and Wolves – doing it with top managers and making smart signings in the transfer window.
