# These Newcastle fans react to Dubravka being close to a new deal

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has revealed that he is in talks with the club over a new contract and is close to an agreement.

Dubravka joined Newcastle on a permanent deal over the summer of 2018, after initially joining on loan in January, but could now be set for an extended long-term contract.

[Speaking to The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/martin-dubravka-close-newcastle-contract-16921627), he said this:

> Hopefully, we can keep our players in the squad, our leaders, and we can build on this.

> We’re in talks. I’m close. That’s what I can say.

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Tying Dubravka down to a new long-term contract would be a statement of intent from Newcastle. Despite a couple of high-profile errors in recent weeks, the Slovakian has also made some crucial saves and been a key player for the club over the past year.

The sceptical fans among us may look at it as a way of retaining his value to make money off of him if the club is relegated from the Premier League this season, but it is still an excellent piece of business from Newcastle either way you look at it.
