Schick turned down Newcastle move – would he have improved the squad?

Roma striker Patrick Schick reportedly turned down the chance to sign for Newcastle over the summer.

According to The Shields Gazette, Schick could have joined Newcastle before the start of the season but wanted a move to Germany.

Schick was eventually able to push through a switch to RB Leipzig on loan, allowing him to ply his trade in the Bundesliga this season.

Would Schick have improved Newcastle’s squad?

It depends on several factors. Is Andy Carroll fit? Has Dwight Gayle been sold? Is Joelinton scoring goals?

If Carroll is fit, Gayle is still at the club and Joelinton is in form, there would be no need for Schick at Newcastle.

The forward scored just three goals in 15 Serie A starts for Roma last season, which proves that he is hardly prolific in front of goal. Joelinton, meanhwile, has scored once in four Premier League games so far and has Carroll and Gayle to back him up once they are back from their respective injuries.

Whilst Schick may yet go on to be a roaring success at Leipzig and prove his worth, it appears as though Newcastle did not miss out on much at this moment in time.
