# Shelvey claims Newcastle squad are together – is he right?

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has labeled the criticism of Steve Bruce and his teammates as “embarrassing” this week.

Shelvey says that the players are together in the dressing room and that it is showing with recent performances.

[Speaking to The Chronicle,](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jonjo-shelvey-hits-back-embarrassing-16886261) Shelvey said this:

> It’s just people who are bored. If they saw you – or [Steve Bruce](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/steve-bruce) – in the street they’d come up to you and try to talk.

> It’s just embarrassing. People can talk but we need to stick together and keep it all in house.

> We have to do our media duties and that but you can see in recent performances that we are together.

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Shelvey may well have a point that people will Tweet or say anything online about footballers or managers, but would not approach them with the same criticism in person – although that is impossible to prove.

Have recent performances shown that there is a togetherness in the squad? Absolutely. The well-fought draw with Watford and the excellent win over Spurs are prime examples of how this group of players are ready to work hard for each other on the pitch.

The last thing you can question Newcastle’s players for is their effort. They are clearly working hard and giving their all out on the pitch, which is a sign that they are willing to fight to stay in this division – regardless of what is said in the media.
