Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has claimed that the early signs are encouraging regarding Andy Carroll’s return to action this year.
Carroll joined the club on a free transfer over the summer but has been nursing an ankle injury from his time with West Ham.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Bruce said this about Carroll’s recovery:
Let’s hope he can come and train with us for a couple of weeks.
The early signs are encouraging.

Should Carroll start when fit?
Joelinton has scored one goal in four games for Newcastle so far this season, scoring the winner against Tottenham last month, but has struggled at times to hold the ball up and bring others into play.
Carroll, on the other hand, is excellent at bringing the ball in and protecting it – bringing his teammates in and helping the team push up the field quicker in transition.
However, Carroll still appears to be a number of weeks away from being in contention to start so Joelinton has plenty of time to progress and show what he can do in a Newcastle shirt.
