Newcastle reportedly saw off competition from Scottish side Rangers in the summer to sign French defender Ludwig Francillette.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, via Sport Witness, Rangers were interested in a deal for Francillette, but Newcastle were able to secure his signature and bring him into their under-23 squad.
The report claims that he had trials with several teams before putting pen to paper on a contract on Tyneside.

Will the 6ft 5″ central defender be a good signing for Newcastle?
Only time will tell, with the youngster still relatively unknown after only joining the club in the summer having been playing part-time in France.
Fans will have to keep track of how the under-23 side are doing to see if Francillette is making an impact in England, but it is a good sign that a number of clubs were eager to sign him. It is also pleasing that he opted to sign for Newcastle ahead of other big clubs, which is testament to the pulling power that remains at St. James’ Park.
