# Colback set to leave for a cut-price fee in January – should he be sold?

Newcastle United are prepared to let Jack Colback leave for a cut-price fee in the January transfer window.

[According to The Chronicle,](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/january-spending-training-ground-plans-16865869)Newcastle are willing to sell Colback for a “low” fee, due to his contract expiring next summer.

The report claims that he did not want to move abroad this summer and no League One clubs were able to afford his Premier League level wages, forcing him to stay at Newcastle.

Should Newcastle be selling Colback?

Unfortunately, yes. Steve Bruce, simply, has too many options ahead of him in the central midfield positions. Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Ki Sung-Yueng and Matty Longstaff are all available for Bruce for his two midfield spots.

This meant that there was no place for Colback in the squad, which seems unlikely to change in January – unless one or two of the aforementioned players are sold to other clubs.

Colback will be hoping that he can secure a move in the winter window, possibly back to the Championship – where he[excelled](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69867/History/Jack-Colback) with Nottingham Forest in a holding midfield role last term.
